There will be earthquakes in various places

3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, 4"Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?"

5Jesus said to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 6Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many. 7When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

~ Mark 13:3-8 (New International Version)

  2008-5-15 20:25:02 Elle: 。。。go on...

for he has no light vs. there is no light in him

During our bible study cell group meeting last Friday, I shared John 11:1~45 with the group. This particular verse is very interesting:
9Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world's light. 10It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light." (New International Version)
Sounds pretty straight forward huh? but I was prompted to cross-refer this verse with another version of the bible:

9Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. 10But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. (King James Version)

To me, the last sentence of verse 10 differs greatly between these two versions of bibles. I am more inclined to accept King James Version, having related it to the context of John 11:1~45 which is about faith. We depend on the light of "this world" is like we are depending on our sight. Faith is from within, just like the light in us, we won't stumble even if we face difficulties along our journey of life.

Bitter or Better

Dr. Bill Newman came to our church yesterday and shared God's words with us. And I quoted some of his words below:

"Before God do the supernatural, we must do the natural."

"... don't curse your hurts, because hurts will either make you bitter or better."

18 holes shotgun starts at 1:30 pm

The Purpose:

To support bilingual education amongst ethnic minorities in China. Minority children suffer academically relative to their Han Chinese counterparts because the textbooks and exams take little account of their different cultural background and their lack of fluency in the national language. Bilingual education supports the principle of respect for minority language and culture. It also results in improved health, poverty alleviation, citizenship teaching, and reduction of gender inequalities. Proceeds will go to support literacy programs for minority children and adults.

Absolute Needs

This morning I read this meaningful daily devotional article.
I would like to share it with you:

From our first breath until our last, we have few truly essential needs. Without oxygen, we would perish in minutes. We must have food and water. Our bodies, when exhausted, require rest. And in harsh weather, we must seek shelter. So, while we are needy creatures, our basic needs are few.

When it comes to our wants, however, there seems to be no limit. Indeed, the entire advertising industry is devoted to expanding our “needs.”

Who is Gulshan Esther?

Many of us Christians should have experiences of Jesus's healing at certain points of our life. At least I do. As I googled on this (being curious) of other Christians' testimony about His healing, I found this very inspiring story of Gulshan Esther.

Esther was born in 1952 to a wealthy and prominent family of Jhang in the Punjab, Pakistan. At the age of six months she became ill with Typhoid Fever and was thereafter paralyzed on her left side. At the age of 14, in the search for a cure for her paralysis, her father brought her to England to see a specialist, who declared her beyond healing and recommended prayer. From England Esther proceeded directly on a pilgrimage to Mecca with her father and two maids. Despite many prayers and great faith, on this Hajj Esther was disappointed not to have been healed, but her faith in Allah never wavered.

Bless and be Blessed.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

The Benefits of Grapeseed Oil:

• Grape seed oil is reputed to contain plentiful antioxidants, as well as to lower cholesterol levels.

• Its healthful qualities have been appreciated for over 100 years.

• High in antioxidants, Grapeseed Oil contains Vitamin E, and a group of bioflavonoids known as procyanadins.

• Grapeseed Oil is a polyunsaturated oil that is rich in linoleic acid. One of two essential fatty acids that the human body can not produce.

• Grape seeds derive their medicinal effects from compounds called proanthocyanidins. Proanthocyanidins have demonstrated antioxidant activity and are believed to play a role in the stabilization of collagen and maintenance of elastin-two critical proteins in connective tissue that support organs, joints, blood vessels, and muscle.

• Results from a number of studies indicate that grape seed may be useful in relieving a number of conditions including vision difficulty, chronic venous insufficiency, lymphedema, varicose veins, cancer, premenstrual syndrome, dental cavities, and variety of circulatory disorders.

• It does not aggravate acne, and is purported to have regenerative and restructuring virtues due to its essential fatty acid content, which is important for skin and cell membranes. Its slightly astringent nature may also help tone the skin.
